I especially love working with knits and fabrics and started Gnomes By Mari in 2017 creating handmade decorative gnomes, inspired by Scandinavian folklore.<br \/>\nGnomes, known as tomtens, nisse, or tonttus in Scandinavian tradition, were always part of our Christmas celebrations. My search for new decorative gnomes led me to create my own. I&#8217;m particularly drawn to the symmetry and timeless simplicity of multi-colored traditional patterns.<br \/>\nMy Estonian heritage drew me to Baltic, Nordic, and Scandinavian knit designs. I reimagine thrift store knits with beautiful patterns into unique gnome hats, combining them with felt bodies and beards. Each gnome is one-of-a-kind due to limited materials from each knit and varied color combinations.<br \/>\nThese unique creations reimagine discarded knits into charming, personable gnomes, each with its own distinct look and personality.
